A LITTLE MORE CLARITY

Privacy, without the mystery

New name: Minth. Developed by James van Oosterwijk. Official website: minthai.pages.dev. Install version 1.0.88 on each PC; older installations do not update automatically. Existing chats, settings, encrypted credentials, voices and models keep their legacy storage paths; no data migration or new download is needed for the rename. The green symbol and white interface remain. Explicit YouTube commands now accept “open christmas hits on youtbe”, “you tube” and “you-tube”; this is bounded command matching, not improved speech recognition.

Minth 1.0.88 public edition uses local Qwen2.5 AI and local speech. Optional web excerpts send the current public question to DuckDuckGo, not to cloud AI. No account or API key. The new combined YouTube/volume request keeps the same separate network/local-action boundaries. Older releases had different models/connection/privacy behavior.

Your workspace stays on this PC

Chats, settings, notes, attachments and saved responses live in your Windows user profile. Normal Minth uses Mint Chat; the optional public-test flag uses Mint Chat Public Test. Workspace backups contain private content: keep them private. Uninstall preserves the profile. Existing encrypted credentials are preserved on update but disabled cloud routes do not use them.

Local AI and speech

Text inference runs on CPU with downloaded Qwen2.5 1.5B Instruct Q4_K_M through an authenticated loopback-only llama.cpp runtime. Bounded context is processed locally; the runtime is stopped on normal exit. Local recognition and Piper speech process audio/reply text on-device. No automatic cloud fallback, remote fonts or analytics are added. This is a text-only model, not image understanding.

Downloads need consent

Local AI setup downloads about 1.14 GB from Hugging Face/GitHub after consent, with integrity checks. Existing verified Qwen2.5 files are reused; Qwen3.5 files are retained but not loaded. Optional local voice has separate downloads. Download hosts see normal request metadata such as IP address, not your chats or microphone audio. Models/runtimes keep upstream licenses and notices.

Optional web excerpts

“Allow local AI web excerpts” in Tools & voice is off by default. Once enabled and saved, current short public-topic questions are searched automatically without asking each time. Only that question, with generic cast/actor/official terms for casting requests, goes to DuckDuckGo. Earlier chat, attachments, credentials and custom instructions are not sent. Private/credential-like and ambiguous questions are conservatively refused. Disable and Save to stop lookups.

Minth reads one bounded public search page, not linked source pages. No cookies, scripts, retries, paid API or cloud AI. The local model can select an exact quote from returned excerpts. Source links and retrieval time do not prove freshness or full-page verification. Failed quote selection shows labeled excerpts; failed/blocked lookup says no current answer was verified. Following a source link uses your normal browser and the destination's privacy terms.

Explicit searches and opened websites use the network

Google searches and YouTube requests send only the explicit query, not chat history, attachments or custom instructions. A Google first-result lookup uses a fresh temporary headless Chrome profile, never your logged-in tabs. It does not bypass verification. YouTube lookup reads a bounded public results page to check a video ID. Pages are not sent to the AI model. Checked links do not verify website content or guarantee playback.

When Minth opens a website/watch page in your browser, normal browser cookies, sign-ins and website privacy terms apply. These sites can collect network/request data. Minth cannot make browsing offline or override browser policies. Lookup failures open results with an honest notice. No media is downloaded.

Desktop actions

Ask first is the default for new profiles; Automatic is optional. Fixed allowlists and validation apply to both. Drawings save uniquely named PNGs in Documents/Mint Chat Creations without overwrites. Volume commands only set the default output master percentage, with Windows read-back; microphone/mute/per-app levels stay unchanged. No arbitrary commands, file deletion, typing/clicking or app closing. “Open Minth Dev” only launches a fixed already-installed executable; no profile copying.

This website

No login, keys, microphone permission, analytics or chat uploads are needed here. Cloudflare hosts the site and GitHub hosts release downloads; their normal access logs and terms apply. Downloading does not send your workspace. Minth is unsigned experimental software; verify its source/checksum and keep security protections enabled.
